The Podkováň brewery was found in the year 1434 by noname monks. This idea, based from Mr. Bohuš, Kováň manor, to ensure good beer for himself and his people.
So in the Macha's land of excellent springs, in the region of sandstone and pines forever guarded by two-peaked mountain Bezděz, a beer begun being brewed.
The owners of this brewery are being changed till 1623 when the brewery and the distillery in Podkováň are incorporated under manor of Sovinec and church for more than 200 years.
In 1869 the brewery and the distillery were sold to the "Union for managing the brewery and the distillery in Podkováň". Under the leadership of progressive farmer and national leader from Katusice, Mr. John Nepomuk Krouský, and under the help of many shareholders the beginning crises was overcome and in addition old brewery in Lobeč was bought and new railroad was built. Another important person in history of Podkováň brewery was poet and writer from Kováň Mr. Karel Vinařický whose hosts were for example: František Palacký, František Rieger and many others.
From the beginning of the nineteenth of this century the Podkováň brewery was one of the Bohemia Praha breweries. The brewery was continually reconstructed and modernized with production growth to 150 000 hl of beer per year (7 kinds of beer). At the same time there were constructed new production buildings for filling of high quality natural water AQUA.
The Podkováň brewery lies in protected natural region named Kokořín valley in a beautiful nature under a mountain Bezděz.
